The Boxer is an ancient breed which originated from the fighting dogs in
Tibet and was refined in Germany. Until it was outlawed, the boxer was used
primarily for dog fighting. He is an exceptionally handsome dog with a "Regal"
Males: 22 ½ to 25 at the shoulder.
Females: 21 to 23 ½ at the shoulder.
Fawn and Brindle. Any other color is a disqualification. White that covers
more than 1/3 of the total body surface is a disqualification.
Short, harsh. Grooming required is minimal. Shedding is constant.
Regular brushing with a bristle brush will cut down on loose hair.
Failure to regularly remove dead coat will result in a musty "doggy" odor.
Not overly friendly or outgoing with dogs or people.
Very loyal to owner.
Not usually trustworthy off lead unless properly trained.
As a rule, not destructive.
Usually not vocal.
Excellent as guard dogs.
Should not be left alone with small children.
Usually easy to housebreak.
Not usually good with other animals.
Reception to Training:
A fair to good candidate.
Will resent any type of harsh or negative training methods.
Hip & Shoulder Displasia, Allergies, Epilepsy, PRA, cataracts, sinus.
A very handsome muscular dog. This dog is better owned by a single owner that
has lots of time to give him.
If looking for a Conformation Show dog, this is a fair to good choice.
If looking for a Pet/Companion Dog, a fair to good choice.
If looking for an Obedience Dog, a fair to good choice.
In this instance "fair to good" is related directly to the experience of the buyer.
In the hands of an experienced owner, a dog from a reputable breeder will be a
treasure. In the hands of a novice, a dog from a less than reputable breeder
could be a nightmare.
