The German Shepherd Dog is truley an "all around dog". He is used for herding stock,
guarding, police work, aid dog to the handicapped, guide dog to the blind and is
also an excellent family pet and companion.
Size:
Height - male: 24 to 26 inches
female: 22 to 24 inches
Weight - 50 to 75 pounds
Color:
Strong rich colors. Blues, livers, white must be disqualified.
Coat Length:
Medium length, double coat.
Grooming Requirement:
Brushed and combed weekly. This dog sheds constantly,
and blows coat completely twice a year. Shedding hair can be an annoyance.
Activity Level:
Eergetic and active dog, needs lots of exercise.
Temperament:
Friendly, outgoing with people and other animals.
Reception to Training:
Excellent.
Good with Children:
Excellent with children.
Health Problems:
Hip displasia, epilepsy, cataracts, PRA, allergies, hypothyroidism, VWB.
Life Span:
10 - 12 years
