The Golden Retriever was bred in England to hunt, flush and retrieve birds.
Size:
Males: 23 to 24 inches
Females: 21 1/2 to 22 1/2 inches
Weight:
Males: 65 to 75 lbs.
Females: 55 to 65 lbs.
Colors:
Rich, lustrous golden of various shades. Coat:
Dense and water repellent with good undercoat. Outer coat firm and resilient, neither coarse nor silky, lying close to the body. Shedding is heavy.
Temperament:
Lively, energetic.
Are not usually trustworthy off lead.
Can be destructive if not properly trained.
Usually very vocal.
Usually good as guard dogs.
Can be trusted with small children that they are raised with.
Usually not difficult to housebreak.
Good with other animals.
Reception to Training:
Excellent.
Energy Level:
high
Health Problems:
Epilepsy, PRA, cataracts, allergies, hip displasia.
Summary:
The golden is an excellent family dog and obedience prospect.
