More Tervs
The Belgian Tervuren originated as a variety of the Belgian Shepherd in
Belgium. He was originally bred to herd sheep and has since evolved into
a dog with many talents.
Size:
Height - male: 23 to 26 1/2 inches
female: 21 to 24 1/2 inches
Weight - 45 to 75 pounds
Color:
Rich Fawn to Deep Mahogany with black mask, and black overlay.
Coat Length:
Medium long, thick, abundant feathering.
Grooming Requirement:
Brushed and combed weekly, the hair should never be clipped short as it can
ruin the coat for years. Bathing is required rarely.
This dog sheds twice a year. Between coat blows, if brushed regularly and
fed a premium diet, there should be no shedding.
Activity Level:
Eergetic and active dog, needs lots of exercise.
Temperament:
The general demeanor of the Belgian Tervuren is aloofness.
Very affectionat toward his owner, he is tolerant of the attentions of
strangers, but does not usually seek them out. This dog can be dog agressive.
His very strong herding instinct can also make him a danger to smaller,
quickly moving animals as well as children. Best kept in a one dog family.
Reception to Training:
Excellent.
Good with Children:
Good with children if raised with them. An adult dog who has never been with
children should not (as a rule) be taken into a house with small children.
Health Problems:
Hip displasia, epilepsy, cataracts, PRA, allergies, hypothyroidism.

12 - 15 years
