The Pekingese originated in China. He was bred for no other reason than to be pampered and admired.
Size:
Males: Not to exceed 14 lbs..
Females: Not to exceed 14 lbs.
Colors:
All colors are allowed. Black mask and spectacles around the eyes with lines to the ears is desirable.
Coat:
Long, with thick undercoat, straight and flat, not curly, or wavy, rather coarse, but soft.
Temperament:
Very friendly and outgoing with people.
Very loyal to owner.
Usually trustworthy off lead when properly trained.
Can be destructive if not supervised.
Usually very vocal.
Should not be trusted with small children.
Usually difficult to housebreak.
Not usually good with other animals.
Reception to Training:
A fair candidate if not spoiled.

Allergies, Epilepsy, PRA, cataracts, slipped patella.
Summary:
A very beautiful little dog. This dog is better owned by a single owner that has lots of time to give him. Constant grooming is required in order to prevent matting.
