          Medium, harsh.

          Grooming Requirement:
          Brushed and combed weekly, the hair should never be clipped short as it can ruin the coat for years. Bathing is required rarely. This little dog sheds twice a year. Between sheddings, if brushed regularly and fed a premium diet, there should be no shedding.

          Activity Level:
          Eergetic and active little dog, happy to play indoors but also loves a nice walk outside

          Temperament:
          The general demeanor of the Schipperke is aloofness. Very affectionat toward his owner, he is tolerant of the attentions of strangers, but does not usually seek them out. This little dog is usually good with other pets.

          Reception to Training:
          The Schipperke requires firm but loving guidance, for it can be obstinate.

          Good with Children:
          Tolerant of children as long as the children are well trained in how to handle a small delicate dog. Children must also be taught to close doors and gates as these little dogs are escape artists.

          Health Problems:
          Slipped patellas, epilepsy, Lake Perthes.

          12 - 15 years
