The Labrador Retriever was bred in Newfoundland to hunt, flush and retrieve birds.
Size:
Males: 22 1/2 to 24 1/2 inches
Females: 21 1/2 to 23 1/2 inches
Weight:
Males: 60 to 75 lbs.
Females: 55 to 70 lbs.
Colors:
Black, Yellow, Chocolate
Coat:
Short, dense, without wave, hard. Shedding is constant and heavy.
Temperament:
Lively, energetic.
Are not usually trustworthy off lead.
Can be destructive if not properly trained.
Usually very vocal.
Usually too friendly to be good as guard dogs.
Can be trusted with small children that they are raised with.
Usually not difficult to housebreak.
Good with other animals.
Reception to Training:
Excellent.
Energy Level:
high
Health Problems:
Epilepsy, PRA, cataracts, allergies, hip displasia.
Summary:
The lab is an excellent family dog and obedience prospect.
If looking for a Conformation Show dog, this is a fair choice.
